No school on 2/8.
In the beginning of the class, we practiced 「猴猻仔」and 「摒掃」with the "tail". Our children performed for parents and guests in the evening. I was very impressed by their good manner while waiting patiently and quietly for their time. They all did very well in singing and dancing. The audience cheered for them. It was a pity that we didn't have a big stage for them to stand up. I hope they will grow a lot taller next year so everyone can see them clearly.
We continue our virtue: 樂觀。 I told them: Optimists are happy. Mentally healthy can lead longer life, too! They are now very happy children. I hope they will keep this positive attitude to face their future.
As Yen-Ui was unable to give his speech last week, he gets the chance today in the class. He was not hesitate at all and spoke very well, following by a song. I personally think the speech contest is a good training for expression and leadership of our kids.
Today we reviewed lesson 2: Ienpid 鉛筆 (Pencils). Many of the kids were so familiar with the flashcards already, but still not good at singing the song. I have to admit the songs are getting longer and harder in volume 2, but we'll get through eventually.
Then we taught lesson 3: A’Go khix sarmpo 阿五去散步 (A’Go goes for a walk). Except for numbers there are only 4 new words for this lesson: sarmpo 散步 (walk)、thviterng 天頂 (sky)、lQh toaxho 落大雨 (heavy rain)、taam-kQkQo 澹糊糊 (soaking wet). Actually they learned thviterng 天頂 (sky) in the song 「飛機」(坐飛機看天頂,坐大船看海泳……), and toaxho 大雨 (rain) in (霹靂啪啦、霹靂啪啦,一陣大雨……)before. After I made the connection, they realized they learned so many words already!

We played the flashcard game. The two teams were very competitive. Afterall, everyone got a small good wish red envelop from me as prize.
At last we made a pencil holder (筆筒)for everyone to tidy up their desk. I think this is the easiest and very useful craft we've made from the textbook so far!

2/8 停課一次!
今天一上課,我們先小考「要去買青果」五個字。因為這些字的部件經常出現,小朋友好像比較會寫
。有位同學晚到,我們已經考完了,她還主動要求要考,證明她在家很努力的在準備!
這個月最後一次談「樂觀」。我說樂觀的人活得很快樂,心理健康也會比較長壽喔!小朋友都異口同聲地說他們也要當個樂觀的人,可以活久一點!
接著我們再念一次第八課課文,同學明顯顯得生疏,念得較慢也較小聲,可能以後我的回家作業要多加一項念課文的功課了![]()
我們分組讓同學們練習會話,做完課本的練習,再讓同學造句「……一下子……一下子……」。最後我們再分組比賽認字卡,兩組實力相當,每位同學都得到我的一個祝福小紅包!
在課堂裡,同學們還收到一個「梁荔青醫師獎學金」的紅包,是由梁永三先生提供的。吃點心的時候,我讓每位小朋友都去向「阿公」說聲「多謝」。同學們不懂「獎學金」的意思,我簡單說明因為他們在台語學校很認真學習,「阿公」希望他們能繼續努力用功,所以趁著過年,發紅包鼓勵他們;他們可以把錢拿去買書,也可以存起來,這時 Jonah 說他會存去銀行,Ryan 也說他會放到 piggy bank,看來各位家長已經灌輸很好的投資理財觀念給小朋友了![]()

因為今天有台語演講比賽,我假設每位小朋友這兩天都花很多時間在準備演講的事,所以我複習小考的生字後,就把字留在黑板上,當作慰勞他們的獎勵!
然後我們進入第八課「排隊」。今天有八位同學出席,我趁機教一下除法:我有8顆糖果,分別分給1、2、4人,請問每人各得幾顆?我讓小朋友到走廊上,以我的保齡球瓶為主排隊;若我只放一支球瓶,則所有同學都排在一起,若我放兩支,則排兩排,一排有4人,以此類推。同學們都好聰明,反應很快,也不會喧嘩吵到別班,我以後會多安排他們到走廊上做這種類似的小運動。有趣的是,後來下課後,Ryan 看到我的保齡球瓶,就主動喊:排隊!
進教室後,我先再說明一下「樂觀」的態度,舉例同樣考90分,樂觀的人看得開,整天很快樂,可是悲觀的人可能就很傷心,整天都不快樂,分數卻也不會增加,有什麼用呢?我要同學事前做好準備工作,事後接受結果,無怨無悔。
接著我讓小朋友圈出第八課課文中認識的字,現在課文已經漸漸加長了,小朋友要耐心的看完。
今天教的生字有:排、王、超、去、買、青、果、汽、結、要、伍、次 。我讓每個人用「……才……」造一個句子。剛開始有幾位小朋友不太懂,後來聽了一位小朋友造了:「我先刷牙,才去睡覺」後,他們都會如法炮製了:先吃飯才喝湯、先起床才穿衣服……等等。
由於課文中提到青菜和水果,我拿出圖卡,讓他們分辨那是青菜還是水果。有些台灣的水果有些孩子們從來沒見過,像百香果、蓮霧等,我在美國可能因為季節和保存的關係,好像也很少看到,不過荔枝和龍眼倒是在夏秋天的時候還可以在這裡買到,各位家長應該多機會教育,讓孩子多嚐嚐台灣知名的水果!

Taiwanese Speech Contest is held next week! Homework is due a week after, ie. 1/25.
Today is our first class after New Year. I hope everyone had a relaxing break.
It is said that we won't be performing on "Taiwan Night" but the Lunar New Year's Eve Party. I invited 道道 and 巧翎 to join us. So we sang with body movement 「猴猻仔」and 「摒掃」in the beginning of the class.
Some kids forgot their homework. That's ok. You can always turn in afterwards.
The virtue for January is "optimistic"(樂觀)。It's really hard to explain the meaning to our young children. I told them people who are always happy and look the bright side of things are optimistic people. I also encourage them to be optimistic people and try things bravely, so they'll have more chance to be successful.
We reviewed colors and finished lesson 1: chvi’angteng 青紅燈 (Traffic light)
I introduced the vocabularies of lesson 2 ienpid鉛筆 (Pencils): ienpid鉛筆 (pencil)、ienpid-khe’ar鉛筆匣仔 (pencil box)、hwar/chit’ar付仔/拭仔 (eraser)、katQf鉸刀 (scissors)、chiQq尺 (ruler)、zhehpaw/zupaw冊包/書包 (backpack)、piexntofng便當 (lunch box)、tQxpid 塗筆(crayon)

今天是新年的第一次上課,可以看出各位小朋友寒假都玩得很愉快,連家長都放假了……因為即使上課先複習了,還是有些小朋友「不太認得」小考的五個字「接給請吃飯」
。這是我的錯,我應該向美國學校學習,放假前不應該出作業的,讓大家開心的玩……可是那樣進度又會跟不上,唉!真是傷腦筋……還好我小考的目的不是為了分數或給孩子壓力,而是要他們「考後」能把字記起來,所以考不好沒關係,但是考完後有功課要做就是了!
這個月的德目是「樂觀」,不管我告訴他們「樂觀」或 optimistic,他們都不太懂,最後我只能用快樂和悲傷的人來代表樂觀和悲觀,並鼓勵他們做樂觀的人,勇敢的嘗試新事物,這樣就會有成功的機會。
我們今天繼續上第七課「打電話」。我讓孩子們兩兩配對,練習會話,美雲還拿了fortune cookie當獎勵,當然每位小朋友都更認真練習,謝謝美雲的用心!
我們複習了字卡,還玩了文字賓果,這次小朋友就很會玩了,念到第三個字就有三個小朋友賓果,我說那他們可以休息了,他們卻還要繼續陪著其他小朋友玩,所以等最後一位小朋友賓果時,有人已經 "triple bingo"了!大家高高興興的下課吃點心。
今天只有Ezra缺席,希望他們全家在台灣玩得愉快。接下來三週換Daniel回台灣,先預祝你們有個歡樂的農曆年!
