我根據孩子們去年學的 My 100 words 挑出相關的生詞來複習:binzhngg 眠床 (bed)、tu’ar 櫥仔 (cabinet)、sQefbixntaai 洗面台 (basin)、beftharng 馬桶 (toilet)、ciaqpng 吃飯 (eat)、tQh’ar 桌子 (table)、y’ar 椅子 (chair)、phorng’ie 沙發 (sofa)、thang’ar 窗戶 (window)、mngg 門 (door)。
Sound recording (please double click the triangle):
Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you and see you in two weeks!

Homework:
We'll have quiz next time (12/7) on words: Please have your child practice writing them.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you and see you in two weeks!

Teacher Amy checked the homework, and oops... a child forgot to do it.
In the previous weeks we talked about helping others as kindness. Today I said kindness doesn't have to be a motion. Simply forgiveness is also an expression of kindness, and it's hard to do.
I taught lesson 8: hQfsu kekiarm zQx (Be helpful). The words we learned were: tQsia/loflat多謝/勞力 (thanks)、mxbiern khexkhix 不客氣 (you are welcome)、sitlea/phvaysex失禮/歹勢 (sorry)、bQo-iaokirn不要緊 (never mind)、siuxkhix生氣(angry)、khaux/hao哭 (cry)、zeahoe再會 (Good-bye).
Sound recording (please double click the triangle):
I asked the kids what they could do to help others. Everyone got to come to stage to "announce" their "talent". We have kids who can help with dishes, cleaning up, mopping floor, even cooking! Oh, I should borrow them sometimes when I need a break with housework!
Then the fun part began! I grouped the kids to Team A and Team B to compete with the flashcards recognition. I showed a card and the one who raised hand first and answered correctly in Taiwanese won a point for their team. All the kids were so focused and quiet. Teacher Amy gave all the kids stamps after the game as they all did a great job!
Homework is:Thank you and see you next week!

Usually there are a couple of students late for class a few minutes every time. I didn't pay much attention to it until today. Naia is always on time for class. Today she was 5 minutes late, and she came to me to say sorry. I was awakened. Yes, isn't keeping on time a basic virtue that we should possess? If we can not make it, at least we should feel sorry.
There are still some students forget their pencils or quiz sheet every time. Others, like Jessica, Naia, Mandy always prepare extra pencils and are very willing to lend it to their classmates. I am very happy with their generosity and good friendship, but I also need to think of something to help those forgetful students. Hum..... to make it their own responsibility, I told them I would take away a stamp from their award sheet if they forget to bring it every time. I hope this will work.
In the previous weeks we talked about helping others as kindness. Today I said kindness doesn't have to be a motion. Simply forgiveness is also an expression of kindness, and it's hard to do.
We practiced flashcards and followed by quiz. I know some kids studied hard at home, and it showed up the results. I am pleased the kids care about it. That's a way the motivation from.
I paired up the students to practice conversation. I found they can read the text(課文)very fast, but they still need time to read the conversation(看圖說一說). I think practice is the issue.
We sang the song "Twinkle twinkle little star"「小星星」. After the Chinese version they automatically translated it into English version and sang fluently.
We made a Christmas tree to take home today. There are twinkle twinkle lights on it. It's a beautidul ending for this lesson 「
Homework:
We'll have quiz next week on words: Please have your child practice writing them.
Thank you and see you next week!

Teacher Amy checked homework for the kids and gave award. A girl forgot to do homework and appeared upset. Dear parents, please remember to help with your child's homework. They are really proud that they did the homework!
I read a story 「猴子判官」to let the kids know they have to be careful about good and bad people. Our kids like to listen to stories. They were so quiet and curious what would happen next.
Then we did craft: 「愛心小精靈」。Some kids (mostly girls) are very patient and have good hands to do the craft all by themselves. Nevertheless Teacher Amy and I were still very busy in helping tape the broken papers. I have to admit that it's not easy to tear the paper out from the book.
Not like what we did in childhood, I asked the kids to spread out all their cards on the table. They needed to show me the picture when I called a name. It's also kind of review vocabularies we learned before. Overall the kids did very well.
Homework is
Thank you and see you next week!

Last week I reminded parents to prepare pencils for your child. This week there is a boy who even forgot to bring his school bag. That is my child. Ha, ha... very bad example![]()
Kids turned in homework. Most of them did all the homework. Great job! As I said, every child is individual. Parents can decide if your child is able to do the optional writing homework.
I reviewed the words 變房裡對坐 and had quiz. I found some kids liked quiz
. Ezra was late but he voluntarily asked Naia the words and test himself. Stephanie was also late. Due to the limited time, I told her she could skip quiz this time. After class her mom told me Stephanie prepared very hard for quiz. Oh, I should have let her tried it!
Today I taught lesson 5 「耶誕樹」。The words we learned were: I also reviewed flashcards of lesson 1-4 to make sure they don't forget what we've learned before.
As the the virtue, I read a story 「猴子判官」to let the kids know they have to be careful about good and bad people. Our kids like to listen to stories. They were so quiet and curious what would happen next.

We'll have quiz next week on words: Please have your child be familiar with writing them.

Following "Sense of Humor" we have "Kindness" as our virtue for November. Most kids went "trick-or-treating" and collected lots of candies on Halloween. This is the kindness of people who distributed their love to others. I told the kids: Treat others the way you want to be treated
We reviewed lesson 6: hQfphvixsay好鼻師 (The best nose!)。Kids could sing the song very well and were much familiar with the flashcards now. Then we taught their exciting lesson: pviarsaux摒掃 (Cleaning up). The new words we learned were: svaf衫 (shirt)、khox褲 (pants)、sQefsengkhw洗身軀 (take a bath)、chitpQlee拭玻璃 (wipe glass)、purnsQx糞埽 (trash)、luothokhaf濾塗跤 (mop floor)、voafti碗箸 (bowl & chopsticks)、zhux厝 (house).
Sound recording:
Some parents might find the clothes of your child was very dirty this week, because they performed the song so hard that they mopped the floor with their elbows and knees. (Sorry, they had so much fun that I just couldn't stop them!)
We planned to play ㄤ仔標 today but we didn't have enough time. Please help your child to write his/her name on every card, so he/she won't lose any next time when we play.
Homework is
Thank you and see you next week!

Please prepare at least two pencils and an eraser for your child in class. Thanks.

We reviewed the words for quiz:雪地片漂亮。As Tuesday is Election Day, I adopted democratic vote to decide if we should leave the words on blackboard for reference. As a result 6 yeses to 4 nos, so I left the words for the kids to "copy".
Then we practiced reading and conversation. I explained the importance of "radical", and gave some examples, eg. Once we learned 「也」we can add different radicals to form different words. Knowing the meaning will help the kids to visualize the words easier.
Today I started some additional writing practice. Due to the time limit we were unable to finish it. Please do the rest at home.

We'll have quiz next week on words: Please have your child be familiar with writing them.
