I was absent today. Teacher Amy substituted me for the Final Test. All the children did very well. The results follow:
I will hand out the test and Summer Packet when we meet on 5/31. Please do summer homework and review what we've learned this year in summer! The knowledge is not returnable!![]()

今天舉行期末測驗。我因事請假,由 Mandy 的媽媽王靖代課。王靖問我是不是有個職業叫做「專業考試代課老師」?她可以去應徵耶!(我期中考也找她代課)![]()
王靖先幫小朋友複習,之後就開始考。事後她告訴我小朋友今天都好棒,字卡每個人都全對(除了 Justin 缺考以外),大家在2:30之前也都寫完了,每位小朋友在家都有複習,考試時也都沒問什麼問題,比期中考好太多了,她都沒放水,她覺得小朋友真是太棒了!(我想經過兩次考試代課的訓練,王靖已經進入可以勝任當正式老師的狀況了!哈,我又幫台灣學校順利募得一位生力軍了
!)
果然如王靖所言,考試成績相當好:
下次再見面是5/31 結業式暨期末聚餐,我會發回考卷,還有暑假作業,小朋友在暑假的時候要記得複習,不要把這學期學的又還給我喔!

Teacher Amy checked homework. Maxine told me she left it at home. I said that's ok. She could always make up next time. The homework was about a survey of sports in your family. Kids were very excited to tell Teacher Amy the favorite sports of their family.
We reviewed lesson 9 Uxntong 運動 (Exercise) and did the excise in the textbook. I also reviewed flashcards of lessons 6-9. Most kids could recognize and say the words correctly.
I reviewed Taiwanese Alphabet consonants part. "j" was still difficult for the kids to pronounce.
We talked about "Honesty". I wanted them always to be honest with their parents, even though they did something wrong. Annika said she knew Adam and Eve wasn't honest because they ate the apple. I said right. They shouldn't have done so. I told them the made up story about George Washington and his father's cherry tree (華盛頓砍倒櫻桃樹)。It takes courage to admit your own mistake. Everyone has to be responsible for themselves.
We made two mice, a big one and a small one. Children liked to play the two mice face to face, ie. mouth to mouth. Today is Mother's Day. I said the big mouse was like your mom, and the small one was like you. I told them that you could give your mom real kisses after class was over.

一上課我們先複習小考的生字,一個禮拜沒上課,我再重新幫他們拆字記憶,有些字就顯得容易記多了。
今天我們結束第12課「唱歌」,每位小朋友都輪流到台上做會話練習,大家爭相舉手,落落大方,很高興一年來小朋友的台風進步這麼多。
五月的德目是「誠實」。除了「誠實為最上策」(Honesty is the best policy.) 之外,我還是跟他們說了經查證後證明為編造之事的「華盛頓砍倒櫻桃樹」的故事。我告訴他們重點不是這件事的真假,而是這個故事的「誠實」部份是值得學習的。當然我不要他們故意去砍櫻桃樹,而是在生活中他們難免都會有做錯事的時候,不要怕被責罰而編造謊言或推諉責任,我們要敢作敢當,勇於認錯,更重要的是絕對不要對父母親說謊。
當我講到華盛頓砍倒櫻桃樹時,反問他們:如果你是華盛頓,你該怎麼辦?Ryan 給了我一個「腦筋急轉彎」的答案:用 tape 把它黏起來,真是經典!Stephanie 問:如果那時候還沒發明 tape 呢?於是用 glue, "honey" 的答案都出現了,真是想像力豐富的一群孩子!
最後我們「男女對抗」:認字卡比賽。我把這學期教的112個生詞全部拿出來複習,居然沒有一個生詞是回答不出來的!我不得不佩服有兩三位小朋友的「實力」,真是快、狠、準!第一場比完,我讓小朋友自己算分,女生差一分(咦,不是112個嗎,應該差雙數呀?),她們不甘願,要求三戰兩勝,只剩5分鐘就下課了,於是我這次翻得更快,佔用了一點下課時間,結果讓女生扳回一成,一比一平手;若要真的再決勝負,就有待明年若我還繼續教他們班時再見分曉了!結束後人人有獎。我提醒他們先洗手再去吃點心。回家作業:

Welcome back, Annika!
Today we did two types of craft for Mother's Day. The craft was not easy, but the children did it! They all look forward to presenting their surprise to their dearest mother.
I reviewed lessen 8 HQr peng’iuo 好朋友 (Good Friends), and started lesson 9 Uxntong運動 (Exercise). Vocabularies were: iu'erng游泳 (swimming)、phaq nakiuu拍籃球 (play basketball)、zQx thefzhaw做體操 (gymnastics)、koxng paxngkiuu/ koxng iafkiuu摃棒球/摃野球 (play baseball)、thad khakiuu踢足球 (play soccer)、zao跑步 (jogging).
When the children saw the picture of basketball, they all said phaq kiuu. Humm..., very good! They still remembered what they learned before. But this time I taught more specifically in verbs vs. the types of balls. We had soccer, basketball and baseball in this lesson.
I also talked about the virtue "modesty", and explained the meaning of 滿招損,謙受益。

我一進教室就有小朋友跟我說她沒有準備小考的字,我說沒關係,今天我就把字留在黑板上當作他們辛苦準備母親節表演的獎勵。
我們複習了第12課課文,並講解了「滿招損,謙受益」的意思後,就開始作「立體母親卡」。我的樣本是一個立體的心,但是我鼓勵孩子自己創作。Ezra 先跟我要了額外的紙張做試驗,他要做一個立體的媽媽,咦,這個孩子很聰明,一試就成功,他還做了立體蛋糕等。接著愷菱也很快用她的方法做出立體卡片,和愷菱坐在一起的Anica, Mandy和Stephanie也參考愷菱的方法,做出漂亮的卡片。Jessica自己坐一桌則用她的方法在卡片上畫出許多溫暖的心。Ryan 的形狀設計很特別,他將來的理工方面一定很強。Daniel 很認真的做出他的卡片,字寫得整整齊齊的。Jonah是第一個做好卡片的人,他的卡片上有兩個女人的稱謂。Justin想在卡片上做很多立體的東西,但是最後沒黏好就又變成平面的了,我知道心意到就好!
最後我們再練習「媽媽的眼睛」,等著星期六的表演了!

下次上課考「首穿進林跟河」六個字,大家要練習喔!

Welcome back, Aaron!
Teacher Amy checked homework. I reviewed lesson 7: PhutQo 葡萄 (Grapes). I gave each child a fruit card and asked them to come to stage and introduce their fruit, eg. name, color, taste and whether they liked it or not. Kids all did this very well.
I reinforced the virtue "modesty". Don't brag, but also don't be too humble. We don't exaggerate our ability and we don't hide it, either. Be confident while you can do a good job.
I reviewed Taiwanese alphabets. There were still some consonants that were hard to pronunce, like "j", "g", "c", "z". I'll keep practicing them in class.
We started lesson 8:HQr peng’iuo 好朋友 (Good Friends). Vocabularies were: satbuun雪文 (soap)、chiwkin’ar/ bixnkyn手巾仔/面巾 (towel)、khykQf齒膏 (toothpaste)、khybirn齒抿 (toothbrush)、sQefhoatzefng洗髮精 (shampoo)、sQefchiuo洗手 (wash hands)、sQefthaau洗頭 (to shampoo).
Kids were familiar with soap, towel, toothpaste, and toothbrush which Teacher Chia-Yu taught them before. The most difficult one is shampoo. But at the end of class, a couple kids memorized the pronunciation. They are really quick learners!

今天小考的字比較難:「歡躺寬平頂」,複習之後有兩位女生寫不太出來,有一位就問我她可不可以看書?我說可以呀,我想她以後應該就不會忘記那個字了!
我講到謙虛除了不驕傲、不炫耀以外,也不能太過謙卑,要適時表現你自己的能力,顯現自信,這是我們台灣孩子比較欠缺的一點。
接著我們教第12課「唱歌」。唸過課文後我讓孩子表達聲音的摹寫,例如:小溪「嘩啦嘩啦」、肚子「咕嚕咕嚕」、雷聲「轟隆轟隆」等。有幾個孩子這方面的想像力很豐富,一直舉手回答,到後來讓我想到 Dr. Seuss 寫的 Mr. Brown Can Moo!真是聲音摹寫的代表作。
這課的生字有:聽、美、句、過、微、首、穿、進、林、輕、跟、河。習寫過生字後,小朋友很高興結束一本書了!
剩下的時間我們和三班一起練習母親節表演的歌曲。這次比上次熟練多了,相信下禮拜再練習一次,就可以上台表演得很好了!

Today we had 曉婷 (Victoria's mom) sub for Teacher Amy. Welcome and thanks, Hsiao-Ting.
We checked homework first. Children wrote 5 times of zaxng, zhaix, say, and joah at home. Most of them forgot how to say zaxng and zhaix. I know it's very different to English. I reminded them: z pronunced as ㄗ, and zh as ㄘ。It seemd a bit easier for them now.
The virtue for April is: Modesty (謙虛)。Kids still didn't know the meaning of modesty. I replaced it with humble, and some kids got it. For those still puzzled I said a story 「誰的本領有用」to help them understand.
We started lesson 7: PhutQo 葡萄 (Grapes). Vocabularies were: phutQo葡萄 (grape)、thQar桃仔 (peach)、phoxngkQr蘋果 (apple)、kam’ar柑仔 (tangerine)、sikoef西瓜 (watermelon)、kinciQf香蕉 (banana)、lyar李仔 (plum)、leborng檸檬 (lemon)、lai’ar梨仔 (pear)、onglaai旺來 (pineapple).
I believed all the kids had seen these fruits and knew the taste. I asked them what color was the fruit and if they liked it when I taught one. Basically there were pros and cons for every fruit. To my surprise was that Yen-ui didn't like watermelon
. I've never heard anyone didn't like watermelon!
We did the activity in textbook, then we ran out of time. I'll review the Taiwanese Alphabets next time.

放了一個春假,回來一上課,連我都快要忘記小考這回事了!不過真金不怕火煉,有準備的同學仍然寫得又快又好,當然我還是先複習一下,免得那些和我一樣忘記要小考的小朋友哭出來。
這個月的德目是「謙虛」,我講了一篇閱讀測驗「誰的本領有用」,順便考考孩子的聽力。(杏芬,潔如因為晚到,又自願小考,所以我在講閱讀測驗時,她正在考試,因此沒寫到閱讀測驗,妳在家可以替她補上。)
今天我們結束第11課「房子」,教了標點符號「,」和「。」,還讓小朋友用「……喜歡……,……也喜歡……」造句;小朋友都說得好好聽:我喜歡讀書,我也喜歡寫字。希望他們到高中時也能這麼說!
最後我們練習了母親節要表演的歌曲,雖然媽媽們早就知道我們要表演什麼,不會有驚喜,但是你們該感動孩子們練習時的認真(除了Ezra 和 Justin 以外,下課後額外被我留下來練習)。Anica 問:「我們能練習幾次?」當我回答:連今天3次時,她緊張的巴不得馬上把每個動作都記起來!每個孩子都想把最好的表演獻給媽媽,對母親的愛無意間表達得淋漓盡致!

下次上課考「歡躺寬平頂」五個字,大家要練習喔!

We missed Annika and Aaron today. They will be in Taiwan for 3 weeks.
We checked homework. I asked the kids to say the electronics in Taiwanese. Most of them did a good job.
We reviewed lesson 6 tiexnsi電視 (Television), and did the exercise on the textbook. Then we reviewed Taiwanese alphabets. We taught 4 new words today: z (zaxng 粽), zh (zhaix 菜), s (say 獅), j (joah 熱).
We did a fan as craft which took up so much time that I was unable to have the kids do 複習二:通關遊戲. So it will be the homework, too.

今天愷菱沒來上課,他們回台灣度假去了,希望他們有個平安愉快的假期!
不用交回家作業,不用小考,小朋友好輕鬆哦!一上課我先讓孩子們聽「畫」,他們覺得好好玩,因為只聽過聽「話」,很好奇聽「畫」是怎麼一回事?其實就和聽「寫」一樣,只是我要他們把聽到的話畫出來罷了。同學們畫了一幅有高高的樓房(Ezra畫了台北101)、低低的平房、一片草地、兩朵花、和自己躺在草地上(女生都把自己畫得好漂亮)。然後我再讓他們看看課本畫的,進入第11課的主題「房子」。
我讓孩子們把課文裡認得的字圈起來,有幾位小朋友把全課都圈起來了
!Anica告訴我她第12課也會唸了,爸爸在家有叫她預習,聽得身為家長的我真是汗顏
。接著我們寫生字:住、樓、梯、寬、平、歡、爬、頂、躺、屋。同學學到22畫的「歡」都好興奮哦,這是他們目前學到最多筆畫的字。
在這課裡,我們教了疊字的用法,如上下->上上下下,高低->高高低低,疊字能加深形容詞的意境,不曉得小朋友能不能體會???
我拿出字卡,就有小朋友說要比賽,我說礙於時間的關係,今天我們只看這一課的,以後有時間會再玩字卡比賽。
我再一次重申負責的重要性:在家裡,當子女的要聽爸媽的話,當兄姐的要負責照顧弟妹,當弟妹的要尊敬兄姐。
最後我拿出我的獎品,為了嘉獎孩子們期中考的好成績,並鼓勵他們上週上台演講/朗讀的勇氣。孩子們一個個挑走了好玩的玩具蛇、煙斗、吹泡泡,就是沒有人選可愛的免削鉛筆,看來這個年記的孩子還是天真愛玩的!
回家作業:
下次上課考「住屋爬樓梯」五個字,大家要練習喔!

I reminded the kids their responsibilities as a student. I hope eventually they will do homework and prepare school supplies every time by themselves. (It's a long journey, I know.)
We taught Lesson 6: tiexnsi電視 (Television). The new words we learned were: tiexnsi電視 (TV)、portexhix布袋戲 (puppet show)、tiexnnao電腦 (computer)、tiexnhQea電火 (light)、tiexnhofng電風 (fan)、pengsviw冰箱 (refrigerator), in which they liked pengsviw most because there was ice cream in it. I also reviewed Taiwanese Alphabets taught before, and clarified some pronunciation for the kids.At last we did a craft. Everyone brought home a TV!Homework are:See you next week!
