Day 10 was a wrap to the program. It has been a great two weeks. The students were all patient and willing to learn. Hopefully we have all got a different take on culture and how we play into it. Thank you all. All the best for the upcoming school years.
Day 9 students learned the four seasons and what season they were born in. Practiced Chinese painting on second piece of fabric and when they were ready began to paint the drawings onto the fabric bag. Students were then asked to think of a Chinese word that they would like to write on the back or front of the bag.
Day 7 greetings. Mounted the Chinese painting and finished designing the puppets. Chinese discussion on dreams and likes. What sports students like and what they dream to be when they grow up. Began the project on the fabric bag which will include a painting of either a snake, dragon or bunny.
July 10- We started the fourth day by finishing the base of the folded box. We continued working with greetings and times of the day (i.e. good afternoon, lunch, good evening, dinner). We then reviewed the 'Earth song' followed by Chinese painting. As this is the year of the horse in the Chinese Zodiac the students learned to draw a horse while being introduced to the various body parts of the horse in Chinese. After the first drawing of the horse the students had an opportunity to choose another style of horse that they liked to draw. We will finish this painting on Friday as we ran out of time today.
Wednesday July 9- Day three we took the laminated Chinese names and the students each made their own Chinese knot using two strings and interweaving them together. A powerpoint presentation of basic greetings was introduced as well as numbers. This was reviewed on a basic worksheet and again through a number song that students listened to. We then played a game called "Da Feng Chuei: Big wind blows" and "rock paper scissors." The remainder of the class we began working on the lid of an origami box which will be completed at the beginning of the next class session.

Tuesday July 8- For the start of the second day of class, we finished the calligraphy project. The students wrote their full Chinese name on rice paper and then used water to separate and create the ripped effect of the borders. This was then mounted onto a sheet of paper and laminated. We then began to introduce shapes by completing an paper folded triangle box.
Ever wanted to learn Chinese, but felt you needed 10,000 hours of practice and a tiger mom to learn it? Now is a time to debunk the myth of learning difficult languages. Chinese your way is taught through an art medium, you being the artist. Students will be guided through a series of projects including historical to modern Chinese calligraphy written on scrolls, Chinese painting sewn onto sustainable bags, and Chinese cultural song performances. All projects including videos of performances can be taken-home at the end of the program. Learn to express yourself through the language of Chinese.
學生安安靜靜的學習書法。The first day of Outside the Box Chinese began with an introduction to Chinese calligraphy by showing the methodology of the stroke sequence followed by student practice. As the students developed basic familiarization with the brush and the shape of each stroke they moved on to writing full characters. The students then wrote their Chinese name on rice paper which will be ready to mount during the next class session.

自2009年以來﹐全美中文學校聯合總會（NCACLS）一直努力不懈地以創新教學來提升中文學校教學品質及促進學生學習成效。鑑於老師專業發展是影響教學成效的關鍵﹐總會連續3年舉辦e-learning 研討會﹐並在2012推出3部分的網上學習系列﹐以『如何有效融入科技於中文教學』為主題邀請專家從語言教學﹑教學設計﹑和教學技術來分享如何將科技融入教學。網上學習系列的目標是協助老師了解教學設計原則﹐開發一個共同學習環境﹐讓學生透過谷歌和它的許多應用程式主動學習﹐並同時展示如何運用中文輸入法作為教學工具來輔助中文學習。經過一年的實施﹐e-learning 小組的成員--石鴻珍,陸璋,劉亮吟,邱美智和黃玲玲老師以及召集人劉娟博士透過2013 ICICE 的座談會和與會者分享成果,收集反饋意見,並進行研討（1）如何駕馭資訊科技以提升學生的學習經驗﹔（2）如何改善中文教室以實施創新教學﹔（3）從經驗中記取教訓﹐適時檢討並加強整備未來網上學習系列以繼續推動優質的中文教學。
